Junior Speech and Debate
Ages 10+
The goal of this course is two-fold: to develop confidence speaking aloud and to foster critical thinking skills.
Our speakers will learn the fundamentals of argument construction and will participate in prepared and impromptu debates where fluent expression, logical organization and efficient use of language will be stressed.
Debate hones analytical thought, widens perspective, encourages collaboration and develops quick thinking. It is also engaging and can be very fun.
All Junior Session courses run for 6 weekly sessions from 6-7:15 pm, cost $75.
Courses are capped at 8 students.
Location: Ryerson School, 940 Waterloo Ave, London, ON.

Senior Speech and Debate
Ages 13+
This course is open to older students who have participated in previous debate sessions and who are prepared to debate topics at greater depth.
Debate topics will alternate between impromptu topics – where students have 15 mins to prepare – and prepared topics – where students are informed of the resolution the week prior. Attention will continue to focus on sound argument construction, with additional emphasis on the flow of arguments and the preparation of rebuttals. Students will be responsible for judging their peers once their own debates are finished. There will also be opportunities to prepare and present Interpretive Readings and Impromptu and Persuasive speeches.
All Senior Session courses run for 6 weekly sessions from 7:15-8:45 pm, cost $90.
Courses are capped at 8 students.
Location: Ryerson School, 940 Waterloo Ave, London, ON.
