About our Founder and Instructor:
Maggie Trott McDermott
Maggie was a keen public speaker and debater in middle school and high school.
As a public speaker she travelled extensively to provincial, national and international competitions in Canada, the United States and the UK. She twice won the World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships ‘Top Junior Speaker’ Trophy for speakers under the age of 16 and is particularly proud to have represented Canada at the English Speaking Union.
A National Book Award Winner and Arbor Scholar, Maggie feels strongly that her years debating and public speaking opened post-secondary options for her and also that they prepared her for undergraduate and postgraduate work.
Maggie holds a B.A. Hons in Classical Civilization and Art History and a M.A. in Art History from the University of Toronto. Maggie is a mother of two and step-mother of two more, and was inspired to found London Speech and Debate to complement their education.
